Rust Repair & Prevention

Lifetime Warranty Direct Insurance Billing Certified Technicians

Ontario is one of the hardest places in North America on a vehicle’s body. Between November and April, your car is bombarded with road salt, calcium chloride, and sand. Mix that with freeze-thaw cycles that trap moisture in every seam, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for rust. It’s not a question of if — it’s a question of when and where.

Rust usually starts in spots you don’t see: inside wheel wells, along rocker panels, under door sills, and on the undercarriage. By the time you notice bubbling paint or brown spots, the corrosion has already been working underneath for months. The longer you wait, the more metal gets eaten away, and the more expensive the repair becomes.

We offer everything from surface rust treatment to full panel replacement. Catching rust early — when it’s just surface oxidation — is a $200-300 fix. Let it go until it’s eaten through the metal, and you’re looking at panel fabrication or replacement that can cost thousands. We also do preventative rustproofing to slow down the process on vehicles that haven’t been affected yet.

Our Process

  1. 1

    Rust Assessment

We inspect the vehicle thoroughly — not just the obvious spots. We check wheel wells, rocker panels, door bottoms, trunk edges, and the undercarriage. We document everything so you understand the full picture before we start.

  2. 2

    Rust Removal & Treatment

Surface rust is ground down to clean metal and treated with a rust converter that chemically transforms remaining oxidation into a stable, paintable surface. This stops the corrosion process.

  3. 3

    Metal Repair or Replacement

If rust has eaten through the metal, we cut out the affected area and weld in new metal. For larger sections, we replace entire panels. The structural integrity of the repair is critical — a patch job that fails in six months isn’t a repair.

  4. 4

    Prime, Paint & Protect

Repaired areas are sealed with rust-inhibiting primer, painted to match your vehicle, and coated with undercoat protection. For full prevention, we offer oil-spray rustproofing for the undercarriage and cavity wax for enclosed spaces.

What to Expect

Surface rust repair on small areas can be done in 1-2 days. Panel replacement involving welding and paint takes 3-7 days depending on the vehicle and extent of damage. We always start with a thorough inspection and give you a clear picture of what needs to happen now vs. what can wait. Spring is our busiest season for rust work — booking early gets you in faster.

Cost Guide

$200 – $3,000+ depending on extent

Rust is generally considered wear-and-tear and isn’t covered by collision insurance. However, if rust resulted from a previous repair that was done improperly (paint not sealed correctly), you may have a warranty claim against the original shop. We can assess whether your rust is natural or failure-related.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my car has rust problems?

Look for bubbling or blistering paint (rust is forming underneath), brown stains around wheel wells or door edges, and soft spots when you press on lower body panels. Check under the car too — surface rust on the undercarriage is normal, but heavy flaking or holes are a problem.

How do Ontario winters cause rust?

Road salt (sodium chloride and calcium chloride) accelerates corrosion by creating an electrolyte solution on metal surfaces. Combine that with moisture, freeze-thaw cycles that crack paint seals, and gravel impacts that chip away protection, and you’ve got a relentless attack on your vehicle’s body.

Is rustproofing worth it?

For vehicles you plan to keep long-term, absolutely. Annual oil-spray rustproofing costs $100-150 and can add years to your vehicle’s body life. It’s especially effective on newer vehicles before rust starts. On older vehicles with existing corrosion, repair first, then protect.

When is the best time to get rust repaired?

As soon as possible — rust never stops on its own and only gets worse. Spring is the most popular time because people notice the damage after winter, but fall is actually ideal: fix it before the next salt season starts. We do rust work year-round.

Can you fix rust on an older vehicle?

Yes, but it’s a cost-benefit conversation. On a 15-year-old vehicle with extensive rust, full restoration might cost more than the vehicle is worth. We’ll tell you honestly what makes sense: sometimes targeted repair on structural areas keeps a vehicle safe and road-worthy for several more years without breaking the bank.
